(1-3) As pesquisas de Carlos Chagas nos sert\u00f5es de Minas Gerais se iniciaram em 1907 com a campanha antiimpaludismo no vale do Rio das Velhas visando salvar a vida de oper\u00e1rios que trabalhavam na extens\u00e3o dos trilhos da estrada de ferro \u201cCentral do Brasil\u201d. O encontro nessa regi\u00e3o de um inseto hemat\u00f3fago (Panstrongylus megistus), de estrita adapta\u00e7\u00e3o ao domic\u00edlio, de h\u00e1bitos noturnos e vulgarmente conhecido como \u201cbarbeiro\u201d surpreendeu Carlos Chagas que, intensificando suas pesquisas, descobriu neste hemat\u00f3fago um novo tripanosom\u00eddeo denominado Trypanosoma cruzi. Posteriormente a identifica\u00e7\u00e3o do Trypanosoma cruzi no sangue de animais dom\u00e9sticos e no sangue humano direcionaram Carlos Chagas \u00e0 sistematiza\u00e7\u00e3o de uma nova entidade m\u00f3rbida do homem , a doen\u00e7a de Chagas. Atualmente, cinco mecanismos podem ser propostos para explicar a patog\u00eanese da miocardite chag\u00e1sica cr\u00f4nica : 1. Les\u00e3o direta do tecido pelo Trypanosoma cruzi; 2. Teoria Neurog\u00eanica; 3. Doen\u00e7a microvascular; 4. Rea\u00e7\u00f5es imunol\u00f3gicas; 5. Altera\u00e7\u00f5es na matriz extracelular. A disciplina tem como objetivos: Analisar as cinco propostas de explica\u00e7\u00e3o para patog\u00eanese da miocardite chag\u00e1sica cr\u00f4nica e os profundos conhecimentos cient\u00edficos que as envolvem. Particular interesse pela teoria neurog\u00eanica pelo envolvimento do sistema nervoso aut\u00f4nomo, que, desde os tempos de Carlos Chagas, desperta grande interesse em pesquisas. Observa\u00e7\u00f5es a partir do estudo de Giorgi, MCP (4) , utilizando a cintilografia mioc\u00e1rdica com MIBG (metaiodobenzilguanidina marcada com iodo) evidenciou \u00e1reas sugestivas de denerva\u00e7\u00e3o simp\u00e1tica (funcional ou anat\u00f4mica) na forma indeterminada e na cardiopatia cr\u00f4nica da doen\u00e7a de Chagas. Dessa forma, a literatura reflete a agress\u00e3o ao sistema simp\u00e1tico e parassimp\u00e1tico do ponto de vista anat\u00f4mico, apontando para as repercuss\u00f5es funcionais advindas de tal agress\u00e3o. Cunha, DM (5) analisando os anticorpos anti-B1 e anti-M2 na modula\u00e7\u00e3o do sistema nervoso aut\u00f4nomo em pacientes com doen\u00e7a de Chagas cr\u00f4nica demonstramos que os anticorpos anti-B1 e anti-M2 exercem a\u00e7\u00e3o moduladora em pacientes com cardiopatia chag\u00e1sica cr\u00f4nica demonstrada ao Holter ECG 24 horas e ao Teste ergom\u00e9trico.
